Should a class XII student join CLAT coaching class?

CLAT, or Common Law Admission Test is a common entrance exam in India conducted for entry into

the Law Universities. If you are someone who wants to study law in one of the top Law Universities

in India, you need to qualify this exam first. You will get a seat in top Law universities of India on the

basis of your rank in this exam.

As all other competitive exams, this exam is also highly endorsed by major coaching centres in all

states. Various coaching centres offer multiple courses to help students prepare for this exam

through a series of lectures and mock tests. Some coaching centres also offer online CLAT Coaching

and online CLAT Mock test series.

When you should join a CLAT coaching is a confusion most students have at the beginning of their

senior secondary classes. Most coaching centres would offer to finish the course in 6 months, with a

preceding mock test series in the next two months. Hence, you will be required to dedicated at least

8 months to this syllabus.

Joining an offline or online CLAT preparation coaching while you are still preparing for you 12 th

boards can be a problem, if you are an average student. CLAT preparation requires full dedication.

You will need to give it at least 3-4 hours a day of self-study, apart from the time that you spend in

the coaching centre. When there are tests, you might need to give more time. This will leave you

with very little time to study for your 12 th class syllabus, which also required a lot of time and hard

work.

Your 12 th board results hold great importance in your present and future. Moreover, if you want to

sit for CLAT exam, you must know that the eligibility criteria for CLAT is that the applicants must be

qualified in their 12 th board exams with percentage equal to or higher than 45% for general category,

and 40% for the SC and ST category. Hence, if you fail to obtain good marks in your 12 th board exam,

you might remain ineligible for CLAT. Moreover, due to a low percentage in 12 th , you might suffer in

your future career too.

Therefore, it is suggested that you should give your full focus to your 12 th standard syllabus while you

are in 12 th , and join a coaching only after your 12 th boards are over, unless you are a very bright

student who has already covered a major part of 12 th class syllabus by self-study.

To be able to crack the CLAT exam, you will also need to have good English Comprehension skills,

and a great reading speed, as well as good mathematical aptitude and logical thinking, which can all

be achieved to some extent just by studying for your class 12 th exam.
